
Canal Day 2015 will be held on Sunday June 28th from 8 AM to 4 PM at Lock 60 and St. Michael’s Park in Mont Clare, PA. A $5 per person donation will be accepted upon entering the access road from St. Michael’s Park to Lock 60, children 12 and under are free. Please be advised, Towpath Road will be closed to vehicular traffic from 8:30 AM until 4 PM. A handicap-accessible shuttle bus will bring people back and forth, free-of-charge, from the parking area all day.
Canoe / Kayak Demos and 5-Mile Water Trail Race - Here is your chance to try out the latest boats on the river free of charge from French Creek Outfitters and EMS. Also there will be a Canoe / Kayak 5-mile water trail loop race paddling downstream in the river, a short portage, and paddling upstream in the canal. Registration begins at 10 AM, boats in the water by 11:00 AM for the race. Awards given in canoe and kayak categories. Registration - $15.00. Click here to register
Schuylkill River Trail Run - Denny Porrini Memorial Run - A 5-mile trail run along the Schuylkill River in Mont Clare, PA. This year’s run will be in memory of Denny Porrini, the SCA volunteer who created the trail run 27 years ago. The run will continue to be held annually as a memorial to all that Denny has done for the Association. Registration begins at 8:00 AM at St. Michael’s Park, run starts at 9 AM at Lock 60. The Run’s registration does require you to provide your sex; M or F, and age to place you in the appropriate run categories. $25.00. Click here to register for the run!
Sly Fox Beer Garden - Stop in and have a taste the Sly Fox Beer Garden located at St. Mike’s Pavilion (no alcohol in Schuylkill Canal Park).
Food Trucks and Vendors - A number of vendors will be selling water ice, hot dogs, sandwiches, funnel cakes, T-shirts and more.
Music - Blue Plate Special starts the music followed by Christine and Company. Music will run between 11:00 and 4:00.
Canal Joust - A Canal Day favorite! Meet your opponent on the jousting pole over the canal. The best two out of three moves on in the bracket. Must be an adult to participate.
Kan Jam Tournament - Registration at 11:30, first discs fly at 1:00.
Lock Openings - Locktender’s presentation and opening of the only working lock on the Schuylkill River... Learn about life on the canal.
Civil War Reenactors and Story Tellers - Visit a Civil War Camp and hear stories of the great conflict.
BINGO Tent - Sit down and relax to a game of BINGO.
Kid’s Crafts, Rides, Fishing Derby - Canal Day is a day for the kid’s to enjoy crafts and rides along the canal. Also fishing poles for the kids and prizes will be provided by French Creek Outfitters. Registration is between 9:30 and 10 AM at Lock 60 (12 years old and under).
