GCGC (239 Bridge Street), a fresh organic Greek yogurt cafe, recently opened its doors to offer folks a wide range of sweet and savory yogurt combinations. Owners, Justin & Ashley Hartman are a husband and wife duo who believe in using business as a force for good and that businesses should operate not just with profit in mind, but with society and the natural environment as well. "Love all and benefit all" is the motto which drives them to find a bigger purpose in everything they do.
That’s why they decided to start GCGC Greek Yogurt. GCGC stands for “Get a Cup, Give a Cup”. This means that for every cup of yogurt purchased, GCGC gives one away to local food banks. It’s a one for one model similar to that of Tom’s shoes which donates a pair of shoes for each shoe purchased. GCGC works closely with food banks in Phoenixville to provide them with yogurt donations that help feed the local community.
GCGC is also unique in that they are selling fresh organic Greek yogurt made with locally sourced ingredients. Add-ons include fresh fruit, honey, granola, or one of their many jams, such as apple pie. In addition to sweet options, GCGC also offers savory combinations. For example, take Greek yogurt topped with hummus and olive oil, and served with pita chips. Sounds crazy at first, but it works. “Greek yogurt is so nutrient rich and low in fat that it makes perfect sense as a sour cream or cream cheese substitute,” Justin said. GCGC will also offer soups and sandwiches to compliment the Greek yogurt which gives customers the ability to make it a meal.
About a year and a half ago, Justin and Ashley traveled to Greece where they found an amazing, little Greek yogurt shop. Needless to say they love Greek yogurt and knew they needed something like this in the states. Throw in their passion for all things local and socially responsible and the idea was born.
The couple has lived in the Phoenixville area for over 4 years and loves the eclectic and active lifestyle and overwhelming sense of community. They want to represent this culture and provide Phoenixville with a product that is not only healthy and delicious, but one that makes a difference. “With each cup of Greek yogurt purchased, we will give a cup away to local food banks, so that families in need have a fresh and nutritious addition to their diet,” added Justin. This means you’re not just filling your tummy with something healthy and delicious, but providing a member of the local community with the same opportunity.
There will also be a focus on environmental sustainability. The goal is to have a zero waste facility by recycling, reusing, or composting all excess materials. A great example of this will be their compost-able yogurt containers.
GCGC opens as early as 7 AM for those that want to start their day with a cup of Greek yogurt and they stay open late enough (8 / 9 PM) for dessert. More information is available at www.GCGCGreekYogurt.com.
