As reported by The Patch, A new brewery tour will run from Reading to Phoenixville while highlighting the history and environment of the Schuylkill River Watershed. It's organized by the Schuylkill River Greenways National Heritage Area (NHA).

The tour, which is sold out already, will take place on February 24th and costs just $55. There are 45 participants on a tour of the beer and culture and the Schuylkill River.

"You can't make great beer without clean water," Schuylkill River Greenways NHA Executive Director Elaine Schaefer said in a statement. "We know the people who will take this tour all enjoy local beer. But they may not consider how integrally beer making is connected to protecting and preserving the Schuylkill River, which is a source of drinking water for over 1.5 million people."

The tour will run from Oakbrook Brewing in Reading, to Sly Fox in Pottstown, to Hidden River in Douglassville, and will end at Root Down in Phoenixville. The topic of discussion at Root Down: the history of the borough and the building's industrial past, organizers said.

Schaefer is hopeful that the tour will help promote the history and conservation of the region to an even wider audience.

"Beer and breweries are a valuable and fun piece of our regional culture. We want people to recognize the role the river and the Schuylkill River Trail play in building that culture," she said.
